How To Clear Emule's Search History! HelpNAV

This entry is a user-made guide and not verified by any eMule developer, but is still a helpfull addition for most users. You you can find questions and comments on this topic in a dedicated thread on our forum.

Basically there are several ways of going about this. Since version 0.42e an option to to enable/disable autocompletion was added in eMule's preferences and also an option to clear the search history. Choose the one you feel most comfortable with:
  1. This method clears previous searches in the search history (doesn't delete) and enables/disables the autocompletion feature. Applies to version 0.42e and up!
In eMule's Preferences -> Display you have to option to disable or enable the autocompletion feature to your liking and also by pushing the Reset button clear eMule's search history if autocompletion is enabled. This will make all previous searches not show up again but the searches are still located in the AC_SearchStrings.dat file in eMule's Config folder.

  2. This method clears the search history. For eMule versions prior 0.42e!
Place your mouse curser in the search box. While located there press ctrl+delete at the same time and the search history is cleared.

  3. This method clears the search history. To be done only with eMule shut down! For eMule versions prior 0.42e!
Navigate to eMule's config folder and open the AC_SearchStrings.dat file with notepad. This is where the search history is saved. Here you can delete all or some of the entries and the search history is cleared.

  4. This method deactivates the autocompletion. To be done only with eMule shut down! For eMule versions prior 0.42e!
Navigate to eMule's config folder and open the preferences.ini file. Search for the UseAutoCompletion=1 entry and write UseAutoCompletion=0 instead (change the 1 to a 0) and close the file. Now the autocompletion is disabled next time you run eMule.
