How To Save "corrupt" Downloads! HelpNAV

This entry is a user-made guide and not verified by any eMule developer, but is still a helpfull addition for most users. You you can find questions and comments on this topic in a dedicated thread on our forum.

Always remember to backup files before atempting to change or correct anything with these files!

This guide is for users who for some reason has a corrupt download. You will need to download the SF-IOM mod to complete the guide. Download the binaries and unrar them to some location on your hard drive.
  1. Recover the link for the file
You can find all the ed2k links of current downloads in the downloads.txt file located in eMule's install directory. Remember to choose the right one.

  2. Recreate the .met file
Use the file link to start the download in the SF-IOM mod. You should start the download paused, since you don't want to actually start downloading the file. This can be done in eMule's preferences. Check which .part.met number it was assigned which can be done by right clicking the file -> Show File Details -> Part.met File. Now exit the SF-IOM mod and delete both the .part.met file and .part of the new download. Rename the old .part file (from the broken download) to the number of the new .part file (the one you just deleted) eg. 001.part. Now restart the SF-IOM mod. It will ask if to recover the download and you answer "Yes". A new .part.met file with no gaps will be created.

  3. Let the SF-IOM mod start downloading the file
Start downloading the file in the SF-IOM mod. It will do the following things the official can't:
-Ask for a hashset for a gap-less file, and persist, trying client after client, until one agrees to send a valid hashset.
-Upon receiving the hashset, it will rehash the file, and detect which gaps are complete, and which still need to be downloaded. It will only share the confirmed complete chunks after that.

  4. Continue the download
Completing all of the above steps you should now have saved your broken download. You can now continue the download in either your prefered eMule client or continue using the SF-IOM mod.
Saving broken downloads this way has one large advantage. Completing the guide you will now have a back-up of all of your .part.met files stored in the .part.met index, so if one of you downloads are lost again, you will only need to start up the SF-IOM mod and answer "Yes" when it asks if to recover the download. You won't have to do anything else, everything will be done for you. This won't, however, apply to files you start downloading after you switch back to you preferred eMule client, only those you were downloading while using SF-IOM.

Credit goes to SlugFiller and the SF-IOM mod!
